AT THE DUKE OF WELLINGTON – A CLASSIC SURREY GASTROPUB
We serve the good stuff at our restaurant in East Horsley. All our meat is British and of the highest quality, from Aubrey Allen an eighty year-old Warwickshire butcher who supplies many of Britain’s finest restaurants as well as holding HM The Queen’s Royal Warrant. Our steaks are from Britain’s finest (increasingly rare) beef herds, 28-day dry-aged for stupendous flavour. Our chickens are free-range, as well as our eggs, pork and ice-cream. Our lamb is Cornish and our fish is native where possible, and we follow the ever-changing advice on sustainability.
Our head chef and his skilled brigade devise our seasonal menus and a range of tempting daily specials (check out our blackboards around the pub). As well as celebrating our increasingly-vibrant British food culture, the focus on seasonal ingredients means we buy the best stuff when it’s at the best price. This way we keep prices sensible even though we’re buying top quality ingredients.
FRESH FOOD ALL DAY
As well as serving our full menu at lunch and dinner, we have hot fresh food available throughout the day. Starting with eggs and fresh sourdough bread for breakfast, accompanied by quality Union coffee made by our barista-trained team, we also serve cakes and a range of sandwiches and light hot dishes whenever you need them.
We don’t have a children’s menu, because we think they should have the opportunity to eat food that’s as good as yours, but our chefs are happy to make smaller portions or simplified versions of many of the dishes on our menu.
We always have well-kept real ales on tap in the bar at our East Horsley gastro pub – Shere Drop and three guest ales – with Continental beers and lagers including Birra Moretti and Heineken.
We are serious about our spirits too. Tanqueray London Dry Gin and Ketel One Vodka are our current favourites for pouring. Or try the range of premium gins, vodkas and aperitifs from our drinks list. Enjoy a large one served as a Grand Gin with plenty of ice, fruit, juniper berries and a choice of premium tonic waters. We also make a great selection of classic cocktails.
We don’t believe a pub is the place for a leather-bound tome so our short regularly changing wine list is accessible and sensibly priced. We’re as keen to wow you with the quality of our house Merlot as with a single estate Pinot Grigio from Allegrini.
HOORAY FOR SUMMER
The season of wonderful British soft fruit and the freshest green vegetables, tomatoes and sweetcorn. Cornish lamb and day-boat fish are abundant and beautiful. And we can’t wait for the native lobsters to arrive – watch out for them on special.
